Man faces attempted capital murder charge, accused of shooting at Mission cop
A man accused of firing multiple rounds toward a police officer at a Mission Target early Sunday morning faces an attempted capital murder charge, according to court documents filed in Johnson County Monday.
William Henry Parker III faces one count each of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer, interference with a law enforcement officer/discharge of a firearm while fleeing and burglary, according to a charging document filed in Johnson County.
Officers with the Mission Police Department were called to a Target at 6100 Broadmoor St. at 4:41 a.m. Sunday on reports of a burglary in progress, police Chief Dan Madden said in a news release.
Near the back of the store, an officer observed Parker carrying several duffel bags, Madden said.
After a confrontation, Parker fled the scene, Madden said. During a pursuit, he reportedly fired several rounds toward the officer. The officer returned fire, striking Parker.
Investigators rendered first aid at the scene, and Parker was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Madden said. No officers were injured.
According to Madden, the store is one of several “crime scenes” involved in the incident. The Johnson County officer-involved critical incident team is investigating the shooting, he said.
Parker is being held by the Johnson County Department of Corrections, according to the agency’s inmate roster.
Parker is set to appear for an arraignment hearing at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday , according to the inmate roster.
