Mission police officer shoots, injures alleged burglary suspect outside Target
A Mission police officer shot and injured a person Sunday morning after the suspect had fired multiple rounds, according to the department.
The Mission Police Department was called around 4:41 a.m. to a Target at 6100 Broadmoor St. on a burglary call. Soon after arrival, an officer witnessed someone at the back of the store with duffle bags, according to Police Chief Dan Madden.
The officer confronted and then chased the suspect. That’s when the suspect allegedly fired a handgun, discharging multiple rounds toward the officer, according to Madden. The officer returned fire, striking the suspect.
Officers administered first aid at the scene, and the suspect was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured.
The Johnson County officer-involved critical incident team is investigating, according to Madden. The Target is one of multiple crime scenes involved in the incident, and the department is working to release the scene as soon as possible.
