Double shooting injures woman, child in Kansas City’s Hidden Valley neighborhood

A double shooting injured a woman and a child under the age of 10 Tuesday evening in Kansas City’s Hidden Valley neighborhood, a police spokesman said.

Officers responding at about 6:30 p.m. to the shooting found the victims near East 89th Street and Highland Avenue, said Capt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department. Both were suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The woman told police that she and the girl were in the area of East 93rd Street and Bales Avenue near the Canyon Creek Apartments in south Kansas City when she heard the sound of gunfire and realized that she and the girl had been struck, Becchina said. The woman then drove to the area of East 89th and Highland, where police were called.

Officers investigating the incident found evidence of the shooting in the 9300 block of Bales.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
