Police have confirmed that a fatal triple-shooting at a Riverside townhouse on Jan. 3 was most likely a double-homicide and suicide, according to Riverside Police Department spokesperson Detective Shaun Zufelt.

Riverside police and fire dispatchers responded to a 911 call around 1 a.m. Jan. 3 where no one spoke, but the line stayed open, Zufelt previously told The Star.

Emergency personnel responded to the Riverside Townhouses in the 4700 block of Northwest Riverside Drive, Zufelt said.

Officers located the home the call originated from and knocked on the front door, identifying themselves as law enforcement, Zufelt said. When they didn’t receive a response, the officers entered the residence to check on its occupants.

Investigators found 80-year-old Larry Wilson, 78-year-old Marcia Wilson and their son, 55-year-old Gary Wilson, dead from apparent gunshot wounds, Zufelt said.

On Jan. 16, Zufelt told The Star in an email that evidence “strongly suggests” the incident was a double-homicide and a suicide.

“Riverside Police have gathered numerous pieces of evidence which strongly indicate this possibility, including a handgun inside the residence believed to be the weapon used in the tragedy,” Zufelt said.

No final determination has been made regarding the resident’s manner of death, and the incident is still under investigation, Zufelt said.

The Star’s Robert A. Cronkleton contributed reporting.
