Man killed in shooting during argument at apartments on Kansas City’s east side
One man is dead after an argument escalated into a shooting Sunday evening at an apartment complex in Kansas City’s East Swope Highlands neighborhood, a police spokesperson said.
Officers responding to a disturbance at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday found a man who had been shot inside an apartment at the Park Highlands Apartments in the 6400 block of Manchester Avenue on Kansas City’s east side, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department. An emergency medical crew declared the man dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been arguing with another man and the argument escalated into gunfire, with the victim being struck, Gonzalez said. The man who allegedly killed the victim fled the area before police arrived.
Police do not know the identity of the man involved in the killing and no suspect information was released.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the area and collected evidence and statements from witnesses.
The killing is Kansas City’s fourth homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star. That compares to seven homicides reported at this time last year.
