KC man charged for alleged involvement in nonfatal shooting near hospital
A Kansas City man has been charged with several offenses related to a nonfatal shooting that happened last week near the University of Kansas Health System facility.
Michael V. Jackson faces first degree assault and armed criminal action charges for his alleged involvement with a shooting near the hospital at East 39th Street and State Line Road on Dec. 22.
Surveillance footage allegedly captured the man, later identified as Jackson, standing on the Missouri side of State Line Road and firing a gun at the victim, who was running away from Jackson across the road. Jackson then allegedly fled the scene, according to Jazzlyn Johnson, spokesperson for the Jackson County’s prosecutor’s office.
The victim was transported to a hospital and is now in stable condition. According to Johnson, surveillance footage showed an argument between the two men started when they got off a KCATA bus.
The victim allegedly punched the defendant in the face and walked away, and then Jackson allegedly pulled out a handgun and followed the victim before shooting him, according to Johnson.
Detectives found a single spent shell casing on the sidewalk, and a fragment lodged in the window of the nearby hospital. A judge set Jackson’s bond at $75,000.
