A 21-year-old man was apprehended by Kansas City, Kansas police officers on Oct. 6 in the March triple shooting in KCK’s Riverview neighborhood that left one man dead.

Rene Najera faces one count each of first-degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault, according to a Wyandotte County court document.

Kansas City, Kansas, police officers responded around 9 p.m. on March 26 to the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue near South 16th Street , department spokesperson Nancy Chartrand previously told The Star.

There, investigators discovered three people, including one around the age of 15, with gunshot wounds, according to a warrant issued in support of Najera’s arrest. Two victims were lying in the street and one inside a nearby car.

All three victims were transported to an area hospital. There, Anderson Murcia-Cartagena, 18, was pronounced dead.

Najera is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $150,000 bond, Chartrand said in a press release Tuesday. He is set to appear for an unspecified hearing on Oct. 21, according to court documents.
