Former Olathe teacher accused of having sex with student gets 3 years probation
A former Olathe science teacher accused of having sexual relations with a student was sentenced to three years of probation in Johnson County court Sept. 18.
Jonathan Molina-Calderon was arrested on Dec. 19, 2024, after a student alleged they engaged in consensual sexual intercourse with Molina-Calderon on Oct. 14.
According to state records, Molina-Calderon had been with the Olathe school district since 2018.
Molina-Calderon pleaded no contest to unlawful sexual relations with a student 16 or older on July 16, according to Johnson County court records. Sixteen is the age of consent in Kansas.
Nearly two weeks after his arrest, Molina-Calderon filed, through his attorneys, an objection to the release of an affidavit in support of his arrest, according to a Johnson County court document.
At the time, Molina-Calderon and his attorneys claimed releasing the affidavit “serves only the prurient interest of the press and fails to inform the public in any meaningful manner,” according to the document filed on Dec. 30, 2024.
The document further stated that “the press should not be further encouraged to attempt to taint the jury pool in this matter.”
If the affidavit requests were not denied, the team requested the document be redacted, “to protect the victim and to preserve the defendant’s right to a fair and impartial jury,” according to the document.
A redacted affidavit was eventually released to requestors, according to court documents.
