A Kansas City, Kansas, man faces a second-degree murder charge in the fatal stabbing Thursday of a 23-year-old man, just days before his birthday.

Troy Ford, 29, faces one count of intentional second-degree murder, according to a Wyandotte County court document.

Officers with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department responded just after 7 p.m. Thursday to the 6500 block of Kansas Avenue, where they found Christopher Cook, 23, in a residence, suffering from stab wounds, according to a press release from Kansas City, Kansas Police Department Capt. Osvaldo Navarro.

Paramedics pronounced Cook dead at the scene.

He would have turned 24 on Sept. 15, according to the press release.

The Wyandotte County Jail inmate roster states Ford is set to appear for an unspecified hearing on Sept. 16. He is being held in the Wyandotte County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
