Man dies after argument escalates into gunfire in Kansas City neighborhood
Update: Police identified the victim as 31-year-old Javonie E. Minor Monday afternoon.
Police are investigating a homicide after a man was shot during an argument at a home in the Key Coalition neighborhood of Kansas City, a police spokesman said.
Officers responded about 8:30 p.m. to a shooting in the 2900 block of Wabash Avenue, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the Kansas City Police Department.
Upon arrival, officers were directed to a home where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds, DiMartino said. An emergency medical crew took the man to a hospital, where he died shortly thereafter.
A preliminary investigation revealed that there was an altercation involving multiple people outside of a home, DiMartino said. Shots were fired, striking the victim.
The man’s death is being investigated as a homicide. No one was in custody, and no suspect information was released.
Detectives and crime scene investigators collected evidence and searched the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance video.
The killing is Kansas City’s 69th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That compares to 63 homicides reported by this time last year.
