Two vehicles hit pedestrian in midtown Kansas City; one driver fled

A pedestrian was in the hospital with critical injuries after being struck by two vehicles, one that fled the scene, early Sunday in Kansas City’s midtown area, a police spokeswoman said.

The hit-and-run crash occurred shortly after midnight near Linwood Boulevard and Campbell Street in the North Hyde Park neighborhood, said Officer Alyana Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a driver in a gray Toyota was headed east on Linwood from Charlotte Street and hit a pedestrian in the middle of the street, causing him to fall into the westbound lanes, Gonzalez said.

A few seconds later, the driver of a dark-colored Jeep hit the pedestrian and left the scene of the crash.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene. Police do not suspect that the Toyota’s driver was impaired.
