2 killed, child abducted but found safe in KC’s Northland. Search continues for suspect
A search is underway for a man who authorities say is a “suspect of interest” in the abduction of a 5-year-old child and fatal shootings of two others in Kansas City’s Northland, according to the Platte County Sheriffs’ Office.
Police are searching for 43-year-old George C. Manning III, who is wanted in the abduction of Giuliana Manning about 11:20 p.m. Thursday.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert for the missing. The alert was canceled shortly before 7 a.m. Friday after the Giuliana was found safe.
George Manning was still at large and was possibly driving a stolen blue 2013 Hyundai Accent with Kansas license 3939ABK in the Kansas City area, according to the highway patrol.
Manning was described as a Black man, about 5-feet-7-inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white shirt.
The series of events began with a fatal shooting about 11 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Vivion Road and Northwest High Drive, according to Capt. Jeffrey Shanks, a spokesman with the sheriff’s office.
The man in that shooting allegedly took the victim’s vehicle and drove to a home in the 4400 block of Northwest 50th Street just out of Riverside in unincorporated Platte County. While at the home, the person allegedly shot two other people, killing one and seriously injuring the other, Shanks said.
Manning then allegedly abducted Giuliana, according to the highway patrol.
At approximately 5:10 am, Giuliana was located and is safe, unharmed, and was reunited with family members, Shanks said.
Manning is being considered the “person of interest” in both the homicides and the child abduction should be considered armed and dangerous and is believed to be involved in multiple shootings in the area, Shanks said.
Authorities did not release any details about the victims or what led to the shootings.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Manning is asked to call 911 or the Platte County Sheriff’s Office at 816-858-3521.
