Pedestrian dead after hit-and-run at Truman Road and Van Brunt intersection Sunday
A pedestrian was killed just after being struck by a BMW in a hit-and-run Sunday morning Kansas City.
The victim was walking in a bike lane shortly after midnight on the south side of Truman Road when the BMW hit them as it flipped off the road.
The driver, going west, sped through a red light at the intersection of Truman Road and Van Brunt Boulevard where it hit a gray Honda Civic traveling north, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
The BMW lost control after impact and went off the road, hitting the pedestrian and a wooden utility pole, shearing it out of the ground.
There were two people in the BMW, according to Becchina, both fled the scene on foot headed west on Truman Road. The pedestrian was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda was not injured. Evergy responded to the scene to fix the loss of power.
This marks Kansas City’s 60th vehicle-related fatality, according to the police department.
