Police officers responding to reports of a stolen vehicle instead found a man suffering from a gunshot wound in a car Friday north of Kansas City, according to preliminary reports.

The man, identified as 64-year-old Anthony R. Brown, died at the hospital the next day from his injuries.

Officers responded to the 3400 block of North Cleveland Avenue around 4 p.m. Friday on a call about a stolen car, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, spokesperson with the Kansas City Police Department. When officers arrived, they found Brown in a vehicle near the intersection of NE 34 Street and NE Chouteau Trafficway with a gunshot wound.

Brown was taken to a nearby hospital but died Saturday. Detectives are looking for possible suspects and what may have led to the shooting, according to DiMartino.
