Hit-and-run driver flees KC crash with hurt motorcyclist still on car’s hood, windshield
A hit-and-run driver crashed at high speeds into a minibike early Friday and fled with the motorcyclist still on the hood and windshield of the car, a police spokesman said.
The crash occurred about 1:10 a.m. when the motorcyclist on a red Honda Z motorcycle, commonly called a Monkey Bike, was stopped at a red traffic signal at West 35th Street and Southwest Trafficway in the Roanoke and Valentine neighborhoods of Kansas City, said Capt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department.
The driver of a silver Honda Civic was headed south on Southwest Trafficway at high speeds and crashed into the motorcycle, Becchina said. The motorcyclist was thrown from the minibike and landed on the hood and windshield of the car.
The Civic driver allegedly continued south with the motorcyclist still on the car after dragging the minibike for several feet until it became dislodged, Becchina said. At about 36th Street, the driver allegedly slammed the brakes, throwing the motorcyclist into the street.
Becchina said the driver allegedly tried to back up and leave, but damage from the crash disabled the car. The driver then ran from the vehicle, heading east on 36th Street and north on Jefferson Street.
The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Police were looking for the driver of the Honda Civic, who was suspected of being impaired, Becchina said.
