A bicyclist is in serious condition after colliding with a Ford F-150 pickup truck that had turned in front of the rider Sunday evening in a Kansas City neighborhood, a police spokesman said.

The bicyclist, whose age was not released, was headed east on a black Pivot bicycle about 6:50 p.m. on East 30th Street near Brighton Avenue in the Knoches Park neighborhood of Kansas City, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department said.

The maroon pickup was headed west on 30th and made a left turn on to Brighton, “directly in the path of the bicycle,” Becchina said.

The bicycle struck the passenger side of the pickup, throwing the rider off the bicycle. The rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the pickup was uninjured.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, Becchina said.
