3 injured after train crashes into semi truck at Cass County crossing, according to police
Three people, including two juveniles, were injured Tuesday afternoon when a train struck a semi truck at a crossing in northwestern Cass County, according to police.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Cass County Sheriff’s Office were investigating the crash near 187th Street and Holmes Road, southwest of Belton.
In a statement Tuesday evening, the highway patrol said the semi was occupied by six people, including one adult and two juveniles who were injured. Two had minor injuries, the patrol said, and one of the juveniles was seriously injured.
Authorities said the train remained on its tracks and neither of the two people aboard were hurt.
Photographs shared online showed a trailer split open, its cargo spilled out onto the ground, beside a stopped freight train. The semi truck was believed to have been stuck on the railroad tracks when it was hit by the southbound train, according to preliminary findings of the patrol’s investigation.
There were no hazards stemming from the crash, according to the sheriff’s department, though people were being asked to avoid the area Tuesday.
