A 1-year-old child was critically injured and three youths were taken to the hospital after a crash Friday evening in Kansas City at 70th Street and Walrond Avenue, according to police.

Police officers responded to the crash around 5:30 p.m., the department said in a written statement. Investigators found that a GMC Yukon SUV was being driven east on 70th Street and its driver failed to stop for a stop sign at Walrond Avenue.

The SUV was struck by a Ford van and overturned, police said. The 1-year-old child was unrestrained in the SUV, according to police, and was thrown from the vehicle.

The child was taken to the hospital in critical condition and remained in that state as of Friday evening.

Three other minors, whose ages were not immediately disclosed by police, were also taken to the hospital. They were listed in stable condition.

Police said the drivers of both vehicles were uninjured.

Kansas City police continued to investigate the crash on Friday night.
