KC teen hospitalized after crashing into pole during police chase in Johnson County

A Kansas City teenager was hospitalized after he crashed into a pole while being chased by the Kansas Highway Patrol, authorities said.

An 18-year-old driving a 2005 Acura was fleeing from a trooper on US Route 69 southbound in Johnson County when the teen took the exit to 119th Street too quickly and lost control of his car, hitting a light pole just after 11 p.m. Friday, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

The teenager was hospitalized with what were believed to be serious injuries, police said.

A 34-year-old man from Overland Park in a 2011 Mazda was headed eastbound on 119th Street at the same time and collided with the Acura, according to the highway patrol. The crash report did not indicate whether he was injured.

No further information was immediately available, including why highway patrol initiated the chase, how long it lasted, or at what speed the vehicles were traveling.
