A preliminary medical examiner’s report suggests that a man and woman found shot to death in a wooded area in Kansas City’s Northland on Sunday were likely killed in a murder-suicide.

Officer Donna Drake, a department spokeswoman, said in a statement Thursday afternoon that the medical examiner’s office had made that ruling. But she also noted the deaths were still being investigated by homicide detectives.

The investigation began on Sunday afternoon after Kansas City police officers were dispatched to the area of N.E. 48th Street and Randolph Road in regard to a medical nature unknown. Responding officers were directed by citizens into the woods, where two gunshot victims were found.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. They have since been identified as Misty Brockman, 40, and Kevin Moore, 42.

Further information about the case was not immediately available from police, including the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
