Police detain person of interest in Northeast Kansas City homicide Saturday night

Update: Police identified the victim as 31-year-old James Fisher.

Police are investigating a homicide reported Saturday night in Northeast Kansas City.

Officers were called just before 8:30 p.m. to a cutting in the 500 block of Gladstone Boulevard, Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in an email.

When they arrived, police found a victim suffering from apparent trauma, Drake said. Emergency medical crews declared the person dead at the scene.

Police detained a person of interest, and detectives are not searching for any other parties, Drake said.

Detectives and crime scene personnel responded to the scene to process for evidence and speak to witnesses, Drake said.

The killing marks the 127th homicide reported in Kansas City this year, according to data tracked by The Star.
