One person died following a hit-and-run collision between three vehicles Monday night in Kansas City, according to police.

Officers responded to the collision at 9:40 p.m. at St. John Avenue and Oakley Avenue after a black Mazda 3 struck two parked vehicles, Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department, said in a news release.

The Mazda’s driver was speeding west on St. John Avenue when it hit a parked tan Lexus with one passenger inside, and then struck a parked green Ford F150, which also had a passenger, Becchina said.

An unknown man, the driver of the Mazda, ran from the scene, Becchina said.

The passenger in the Mazda was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, he said.

The driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening, and the Lexus driver didn’t complain of injuries, Becchina said.

This was the 69th road fatality in Kansas City this year, compared to 60 at this time last year, according to data tracked by police.
