A man driving a motorcycle without a helmet died after he struck a vehicle Thursday night in Kansas City, police said.

Update: Police have identified the man as 50-year-old Adrian Wright.

A man was killed Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash after being ejected from a Suzuki motorcycle, according to Kansas City police.

Officers responded to calls of a collision between vehicles at 5:15 p.m. on Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and Prospect Avenue, said Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department.

A police investigation revealed that the driver of a Ford F250 vehicle was traveling north on Prospect Avenue, stopped at a red light and then started turning left as the light switched to green.

The driver saw a maroon vehicle head south on Prospect Avenue, but they did not see the Suzuki motorcycle traveling in the same direction. As the maroon vehicle turned left at the traffic lights, so did the driver of the Ford F250, Foreman said.

But as the Ford F250 swerved left, the motorcycle drove straight into the car. Police discovered that the man driving the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet and was ejected as the bike struck the car head-on.

He was transported to an area hospital and succumbed to his injuries shortly after, she said.

The man’s death marks the 57th vehicle-related fatality in 2022. Around this time in 2021, there were only 47 fatalities, according to Foreman.
