A 36-year-old man has been found guilty of nine felonies related to sexual relations with children that allegedly occurred in Independence between 2016 and 2017.

Glenn M. McGinnis, of Independence, was convicted following a jury trial that ended Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court, prosecutors announced Tuesday. He was found guilty of statutory sodomy, attempted statutory rape and statutory rape, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said the victims — ages 11 and 12 — were interviewed by child protective services investigators. The victims told forensic interviewers that McGinnis had touched their private areas, according to prosecutors.

According to court records, McGinnis was interviewed by a police detective concerning the abuse allegations in December 2017 and allegedly denied having sex with the victims. McGinnis requested an attorney after being asked whether he would take a lie-detector test.

McGinnis is scheduled to be sentenced June 10.
