One person was seriously injured Sunday when a vehicle slammed into a building in Kansas City.

Officers were called at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday to a single vehicle crash in the area of East 77th Street and Troost Avenue, according to a crash report from the Kansas City Police Department.

Police determined the driver of a Ford Escape was headed westbound on 77th Street “at a high rate of speed” when the driver failed to turn at a corner.

When the driver got to a “T” in the intersection of Troost Avenue, their vehicle continued straight instead of turning. As a result, they drove into a building that sits on the west side of Troost Avenue.

The driver was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, police said. No one else was in the vehicle. As of Monday morning, police said, the driver’s condition had been stabilized.
