Olathe East student remains in critical condition days after high school shooting
Olathe East High School student Jaylon Elmore remains hospitalized in critical condition after being injured when he allegedly exchanged gunfire with a school resource officer on Friday at the high school, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.
The school resource officer, Erik Clark, and assistant principal Kaleb Stoppel were also injured in the school shooting that occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. Friday. They were released from the hospital on Friday.
“We still have one adult male victim from the incident in Olathe, and he remains in critical condition,” said Christine Hamele, a spokeswoman for Overland Park Regional Center.
Further details were not being released.
Elmore, who is listed as a senior on the high school’s varsity football team, has been charged with attempted capital murder in the shooting of Clark. His bond has been set at $1 million.
He allegedly displayed a handgun in the school’s main office, which led to an exchange of gunfire between him and Clark.
