Family of a 34-year-old man who was shot, and later died of his injuries, early Monday morning outside of a home in Kansas City, Missouri, have started a GoFundMe fundraiser to help pay for funeral costs.

Officers responded to a shooting about 12:15 a.m. on 82nd Terrace near Euclid Avenue. Although arriving officers found evidence of a crime scene, someone had driven Cory Haley to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

“We are doing a fundraiser so I can lay to rest my brother who was tragically took from us late last night,” wrote organizer Shalina Wideman. “Unfortunately we can not afford on our own to give him the proper burial that he deserves.”

The fundraiser has received $490 of the $10,000 goal as of Monday afternoon.

“Anything that you can afford will be greatly appreciated if you can’t make a donation please pray for us,” Wideman wrote. “The family that was left behind the pain we are enduring as sisters and brothers and his children and the mother and father that has to bury a child.”

Haley’s killing is the city’s 149th homicide so far this year in Kansas City, according to data maintained by The Star. The city had a record 182 homicides last year and is on pace to tie or break its second-largest number of 153 homicides in a calendar year.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call homicide detectives at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case is being offered.
