Family of moped rider killed in Overland Park crash seeks wrongful death settlement
The family of an Overland Park man killed in a crash while on a motorized scooter earlier this year is seeking a wrongful death settlement.
Wade E. Parsons died after an Aug. 11 crash involving a moped and another vehicle that ran a red light in Overland Park. The petition for a wrongful death settlement was filed by his son, Jesse Parsons.
The crash happened shortly before 9 a.m. at the intersection of West 95th Street and Lowell Avenue, Public Information Officer John Lacy said at the time.
Police say the driver of the other vehicle disobeyed a red-light signal and struck the moped, which was traveling south on Lowell. Parsons was thrown from the moped and critically injured. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment and died there later, according to police.
The driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene of the crash and cooperated with police, Lacy said.
According to the court filing, the driver was insured at the time of the crash. His insurance agency has “agreed to pay the applicable policy limits to resolve all claims” in the case, court records show.
The driver was never charged in the crash.
The parties are next scheduled to meet in court Tuesday to discuss a possible settlement.
