One killed in homicide near 43rd and Troost, Kansas City’s fifth homicide this week

One person was killed in a homicide early Saturday near East 43rd and Troost Ave.

The Kansas City Police Department was called just before 3 a.m. on the sound of gunshots, said Officer Donna Drake, a spokeswoman for the department. When officers arrived, they located what appeared to be a crime scene.

A short time later, a person with apparent gunshot wounds arrived at a local hospital.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, Drake said.

He was later identified by police as 28-year-old Theron Porter.

This was the fifth homicide this week in Kansas City.

Two people were killed Oct. 24 in separate incidents, one at 59th and Troost and the other near East 113th Terrace and Askew Ave. The next day, a man was fatally shot in the 500 block of East 105th Street. On Tuesday, a city worker discovered a body in the area of East 37th Street and Oakley Avenue. At the time, it was considered a suspicious death, but it was upgraded to a homicide Wednesday.

Anyone with information about Saturday’s homicide may call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.
