Kansas City police investigate homicide Friday near 26th and Quincy Street

Kansas City police are investigating a homicide after one person was killed Friday afternoon in Kansas City.

At about 1:45 p.m., officers were in the area of 27th Street and Quincy Avenue on an unrelated call when they heard gunshots, said Capt. Leslie Foreman, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department.

Officers were stopped by a person who directed them to the 2600 block of Quincy Avenue, Foreman said.

Once there, officers found a man who had been shot. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released the victim’s name. Details of what led to the shooting remain under investigation. Police did not have a description of the shooter.

A man who said he lived in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred described the victim as a man in his 40s. The victim’s family owns a construction company. Relatives of the victim have lived on the same block for several decades.

Several people arrived at the crime scene as police gathered evidenced and searched for witnesses, including two women who were seen consoling each other.

This was the 117th homicide this year in Kansas City, according to data tracked by The Star.
