Police investigate suspicious death after body found in burned car in KC on Friday

A person was found dead in a car on Friday afternoon, hours after the vehicle was burned in Kansas City, police said.

Around 6:15 a.m. Friday the Kansas City Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire at 10th Street and Winner Road, said Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman Officer Donna Drake in an email.

Police were then called to the scene at 2:15 p.m., Drake said, because a dead body was found inside the burned car.

Investigators believe the body was in the car during the fire Friday morning, Drake said.

Officers are investigating the incident as a suspicious death. They are asking anyone with information to call the Homicide Unit at 816-234-5043 or the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477
