Police looking for hit-and-run driver who struck, killed a pedestrian in Kansas City

Police were looking for the driver of a dark-colored SUV or crossover vehicle who struck and killed a pedestrian Monday evening in Kansas City, police said in an email.

The hit-and-run crash occurred about about 8:25 p.m. near East 57th Street and Swope Parkway, said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

The identity of the 45-year-old male victim from Kansas City was not released.

The investigation determined that the victim was walking across the northbound lanes of traffic when he was struck by the vehicle, which fled the scene.

Witnesses told police that the vehicle had been traveling at high speeds when the collision occurred, Becchina said.

It was last seen headed north.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
