Two injured Friday in shooting near this West Bottoms haunted house

Kansas City police are investigating after two people said they were shot outside the Edge of Hell haunted house in the West Bottoms Friday night.

Around 11:30 p.m., police were called to Truman Medical Center after two shooting victims with non-life threatening injuries arrived in the emergency room, Kansas City Police Department spokesman Jacob Becchina said in an email.

The victims, Becchina said, told police they were near the Edge of Hell haunted house when they heard shots and saw people running. The victims then realized they had been shot and went to the hospital.

Police did not find a crime scene near the West Bottoms haunted houses, Becchina said.

The Beast and Edge of Hell haunted houses closed early Friday night after there were disturbances that stemmed from people cutting in line, according to a statement from the haunted houses.

“Police and security were able to diffuse the situation, and the haunted houses took the extra precaution of closing to disperse those involved,” the statement said. “Due to protocols in place, the wait to get inside was longer than usual. Additional staff and security will be ready to assist visitors outside the haunted attractions for the remainder of the season.”
