Jackson County prosecutors have charged a 33-year-old man with making terroristic threats after he allegedly shot at employees outside Arrowhead Stadium, leading to a six-hour standoff with Kansas City police on Saturday.
Joshua D. Newton was also charged Monday with armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon in connection to the standoff that took place in the southeast portion of the Truman Sports Complex parking lot.
According to police, Newton allegedly drove to Arrowhead and shot at employees outside the stadium. No one was injured, police said.
A police spokesman said it appeared that Newton experienced a mental health crisis. Employees sheltered in place during the standoff.
Shortly after 6 p.m., police used less lethal weapons to arrest Newton. Police said Newton had handguns and a knife.
Police said Newton did not meet the criteria for psychiatric evaluation after being evaluated at the scene and was taken to jail. He was arrested for shooting at employees.
The start of the Royals game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at neighboring Kauffman Stadium was delayed because of the standoff.
