Man dies day after driving off road in Kansas City, crashing into poles, tree

Update: He was later identified as 19-year-old Cesar Nolasco.

A man badly hurt in a crash Friday night in Kansas City has died from his injuries, police said.

Police were called to the scene of a crash at about 11:30 p.m. Friday, said Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department.

The driver of a silver Acura was heading north on Holmes “at a high rate of speed” when the vehicle drove off the road, striking two poles and a tree before coming to a stop on the road near East 127th Street and Holmes Road, El-Ashkar said.

The sole occupant of the Acura was extricated from the vehicle by first responders and was taken to the hospital.

The driver, who has not yet been identified, died Saturday afternoon, El-Ashkar said.

This is the 74th fatal crash in Kansas City this year, police said. There had been 53 by this time last year.
