A 4-year-old girl was shot Wednesday evening in Kansas City, police said.

Officers were called to a shooting just before 6:10 p.m. Wednesday near East 43rd Street and South Benton Avenue, Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman Doaa El-Ashkar said in an email Wednesday.

The girl was shot in the leg as she was getting out of a car to play in a nearby park, police said. Someone inside a silver four-door vehicle began shooting at another vehicle, El-Ashkar said. The girl was being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening.

No further suspect information was available Wednesday evening.
