SUV strikes pedestrian running through crosswalk in Westport, Kansas City police say

A pedestrian was badly hurt Tuesday after they were struck by a vehicle in Kansas City, police said.

Officers were called just before 8 p.m. Tuesday to the area of East 40th and Main streets on a collision, said Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

A driver was headed north on Main Street in a Jeep Cherokee when they hit a pedestrian who was running through the crosswalk at the intersection of East 40th Street, El-Ashkar said in an email.

The pedestrian suffered serious injuries. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
