Second teen charged in fatal shooting of woman during robbery attempt in Independence
A second Kansas City teen has been charged in the fatal shooting of a woman during an attempted robbery in Independence, prosecutors announced Friday.
Isaiah I. Woods-Miller, 17, has been charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with second-degree felony murder and attempted robbery in the death of 24-year-old Shonay Persinger.
He is the second to be charged in her death. Ivory D. Alford Jr., 18, of Kansas City also faces charges of second-degree felony murder and attempted robbery, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.
Officers responded to a reported shooting about 11 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 9300 block of East 16th Street, where they found Persinger with a gunshot wound to her chest. She was declared dead at the scene.
According to court documents:
Detectives allegedly found messages on Alford’s Facebook account that implicated him.
Police arrested Alford on Wednesday and he allegedly acknowledged that he knew about he robbery but denied being there. During a second interview the next day, Alford allegedly admitted that he set up the robbery to steal drugs and money. He allegedly identified four accomplices, one being Woods-Miller.
Alford denied shooting the victim.
Police arrested Woods-Miller on Thursday. During questioning, he allegedly said he was outside the residence acting as the lookout during the robbery when he heard a shot. He said he and the other accomplices got into a car and fled the scene.
Woods-Miller told police that Alford had shot the victim.
