Man accused of threatening KFC worker arrested, charged in Operation LeGend
As part of the federal anti-violent crime initiative Operation LeGend, a Kansas City man has been charged in federal court with illegally possessing a firearm after allegedly threatening a KFC employee.
Edward Latimore, 46, was charged Monday with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a news release from the office of the U.S. District Court of the Western District of Missouri.
Latimore allegedly went to the back of the KFC at 3014 Independence Boulevard on Aug. 8 to publicly urinate, according to the news release. An employee confronted him and Latimore and the employee argued before Latimore left.
In the drive-thru, Latimore and the employee argued again. Then, Latimore allegedly pulled up his shirt, showed a Sig Sauer .22-caliber semi-automatic pistol in his waistband to the employee and drew it. Latimore pointed it at the employee and threatened to kill them.
Another KFC employee took a picture of Latimore and gave it to police.
Officers found Latimore walking on Gladstone Boulevard and took his loaded pistol from his pants pocket.
Latimore was previously convicted of assault and armed criminal action.
The case was investigated by the Kansas City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
On Friday, officials with the operation announced another 59 people had been arrested.
The operation is named after 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, who was fatally shot in June in Kansas City.
Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America and sponsored in part by Missouri Foundation for Health.
