Kansas City man shot outside east side home dies days later from injuries, police say
A man shot over the weekend on Kansas City’s east side died from his injuries days later at a hospital, police said.
The victim was identified as 33-year-old Michael W. Brown of Kansas City, said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.
Brown was shot shortly before 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 5600 block of East 12th Street, near the corner of 12th and Lawndale Avenue.
Emergency medical workers took him to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Witnesses told police that the shooting occurred in front of a home near a vehicle, Becchina said.
Detectives learned Tuesday that Brown had died from his injuries, Becchina said.
No suspect information was released.
Brown’s death is the 121st homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings. At this time last year there had been 87 homicides.
Across the entire metro area, there have been 173 homicides this year.
