Kansas City man charged with murder in shooting of woman riding an ATV on July 1
A Kansas City man has been charged in the death of a woman who was riding an ATV when she was shot multiple times.
Glenn Darren Rucker, 38, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday.
On July 1, Kansas City police responded to the area of East Red Bridge Road and Bennington Avenue on a shooting.
Officers found a woman who had been shot multiple times lying in the road. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was identified as 41-year-old Sharon Heifner-Douglas.
Witnesses told police she was riding the ATV with her dog walking alongside her in the grass when an SUV pulled up and fired shots at her. Witnesses said they did not hear or see any conflict between anyone in the vehicle and Heifner-Douglas.
Police issued an internal bulletin with information about the suspect’s SUV on July 2. Five days later, officers observed a vehicle matching the description at a car wash at 43rd Street and Prospect Avenue. Rucker, an occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.
The Kansas City Crime Lab found that shell casings collected at the homicide scene had been fired from a handgun found in the vehicle, charging documents said.
Prosecutors requested a $150,000 bond. Rucker is being held in federal custody.
Heifner-Douglas’s death was the 99th homicide this year in Kansas City, according to records maintained by The Star.
