At least seven business have reported vandalism that struck Kansas City’s historic 18th and Vine Jazz District this week, Kansas City police said Friday.

The preliminary investigation and review of surveillance video in the area appears to show that a person, believed to be male, wearing a gray shirt and tan shorts is responsible for the damage that occurred Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for the Kansas City Police Department.

A complete description of the person was not available.

“Detectives are making headway on gathering more suspect information today,” Becchina said.

Property crime detectives have been investigating the incident since Thursday.

Workers in the historic entertainment area on Thursday said several businesses were vandalized. Windows at several museums and business on the north side of 18th Street were broken or shattered.

Businesses affected by the vandalism included the building that holds the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum and American Jazz Museum.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
