Police investigate suspicious death after woman’s decomposing body found in KC

Police are investigating the death of a woman after a foul odor led them to her decomposing body at a Kansas City apartment early Wednesday, a police spokesman said in an email.

Officers responded shortly before 4 a.m. Wednesday to an apartment building near Independence and Colorado avenues, said Capt. David Jackson, a spokesman for Kansas City police.

Arriving officers found the body of an adult woman, Jackson said. Neighbors reported that there had been a foul odor there for several days.

Police are investigating the woman’s death as being suspicious.

Anyone with information about the woman’s death is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
