Raytown police officer shoots, wounds suspect Sunday; 2nd police shooting in weeks
A Raytown police officer shot and wounded a suspect Sunday afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Raytown police were called about 5:23 p.m. to the 6000 block of Kentucky Avenue for a disturbance involving a possibly armed person, the highway patrol said.
Officers found the suspect. Moments later, an officer shot the suspect, who was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The suspect, who has not been identified, has since been released into police custody, the highway patrol said.
The officer, who has also not been identified, was placed on routine administrative leave, according to the Raytown Police Department.
No officers were injured during the shooting.
The highway patrol is investigating.
The shooting was the second time a Raytown police officer has shot a suspect in about five weeks.
On April 18, an officer working off-duty at a Walmart fatally shot a man who walked into the store and pointed a handgun toward the checkout area, according to the highway patrol.
