Woman hospitalized with gunshot wounds in Kansas City dies day after shooting

A woman died of a gunshot wound Wednesday in Kansas City after spending a day hospitalized in critical condition.

Kansas City police responded to a shooting about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 3300 block of Agnes Avenue, Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman, said in an email Thursday morning.

Officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds in a vehicle outside a residence.

The woman, identified as 42-year-old Sarah Lowrey, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. She died Wednesday.

No charges were filed in her death as of mid-day Thursday, but Becchina said a person of interest has been identified.

Lowrey is the 70th homicide victim in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings.
