Woman hospitalized with gunshot wounds in Kansas City dies day after shooting
A woman died of a gunshot wound Wednesday in Kansas City after spending a day hospitalized in critical condition.
Kansas City police responded to a shooting about 1:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 3300 block of Agnes Avenue, Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman, said in an email Thursday morning.
Officers found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds in a vehicle outside a residence.
The woman, identified as 42-year-old Sarah Lowrey, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. She died Wednesday.
No charges were filed in her death as of mid-day Thursday, but Becchina said a person of interest has been identified.
Lowrey is the 70th homicide victim in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings.
Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
