Person shot in the head at Excelsior Springs gas station, another taken into custody

Excelsior Springs police were investigating a shooting Wednesday afternoon at a gas station that left one person injured.

Police were called to the gas station in the 1900 block of West Jesse James Road about 3:48 p.m.

Officers found a male victim who had been shot in the head. He was taken to a Kansas City-area hospital. The extent of his injuries were unknown.

The suspected shooter was taken into custody at the scene, police said.

The suspect and victim both knew each other, police added. A preliminary investigation showed the shooting may have stemmed from an incident involving a female acquaintance who was at the scene.

Surveillance video was being reviewed as the investigation into the shooting continued.
