A child was shot Wednesday evening at a Kansas City home, according to police.

Officers responded to the scene in the 2300 block of Chelsea Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting just before 6 p.m., according to Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.

At the home, officers found a boy who was suffering from a gunshot wound. The child, said to be under the age of 10, was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Detectives and crime scene investigators were processing the scene and gathering evidence Wednesday night.

El-Ashkar said police were working to learn what led up to the shooting.

At the time of the incident, police believe there were one or two juveniles and possibly one or two adults in the home. No other injuries were reported.

Police said they were not actively seeking any suspects.
