Leawood police seek public’s assistance after shooting reported on Interstate 435

The Leawood Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding a person accused of firing a shot at a driver on Interstate 435 earlier this week.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday in the westbound lanes of the interstate, according to a news release from police.

A driver contacted Leawood police and said that someone had shot at him as he drove on I-435, west of State Line Road, the news release said. The driver told police he fled the area after hearing the gunfire and later found a bullet hole in his vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

The driver did not report seeing the shooter but described the suspect vehicle as a small, orange hatchback with fading paint, tinted windows, rust on the hood, silver wheels and flickering headlights.

The shooting remained under investigation Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477, call the police department’s investigations unit at 913-663-9309 or email tips@leawood.org.
