Woman found shot and killed in parking lot Wednesday in Kansas City
A woman was found shot and killed Wednesday afternoon outside a Family Dollar store in Kansas City, according to police.
Police were called about 1:30 p.m. to a shooting in the parking lot outside the store in the 8200 block of Troost Avenue, according to Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman.
Officers found the woman on the ground near a vehicle. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Police identified the victim as 24-year-old Kashawn Haskell.
Police had no description of a suspect, El-Ashkar said. Detectives and crime scene investigators were processing the scene for evidence of what led to the shooting.
Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call the police department’s homicide unit at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477. Information leading to an arrest could result in a reward of up to $25,000.
The killing marks the 50th homicide reported this year in Kansas City, according to data kept by The Star. By this time last year, the city recorded 45 homicides.
