Pedestrian injured by DUI suspect fleeing traffic stop in Kansas City early Tuesday
A pedestrian was seriously injured early Tuesday in Kansas City after the driver of a white Cadillac fled a traffic stop, hit the pedestrian and ran into a pole, police said.
The incident began just after midnight Tuesday when police pulled over a white Cadillac in the area of East Truman Road and The Paseo after suspecting the driver of being under the influence, according to Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a spokeswoman with the Kansas City Police Department.
But the driver fled the scene. The officer who initiated the traffic stop did not pursue the car as it headed eastbound on Interstate 70, El-Ashkar said.
Another officer at 1245 Prospect Avenue heard a loud crash near 14th Street, police said. The officer discovered a white Cadillac crashed into a utility pole at East 14th Street and Montgall Avenue, leaving behind a line of debris.
As police investigated the scene, they also found a pedestrian who had been hit. The pedestrian was hospitalized. The driver was arrested and is being investigated for impairment, El-Ashkar said.
